Ethical Considerations & Care in Yoga Photography
Refining images while preserving authenticity
LESSON 31
Yoga Asana Photography Course
Capturing the Practice from Behind the Lens
Editing is an opportunity to enhance clarity without altering the truth of the posture. Thoughtful adjustments to exposure, contrast, and color can help the viewer see the structure of the pose more clearly, while excessive manipulation may distract from the authenticity of the image.
Begin by making simple corrections that improve readability. Adjust brightness so key lines of the posture remain visible, refine contrast to reveal depth, and ensure color balance reflects the natural lighting conditions. These subtle refinements help the photograph communicate more effectively while preserving the integrity of the moment.
Maintain consistency across a series of images by applying similar editing choices. A unified visual style allows the viewer to focus on the movement and expression rather than shifting visual tones from one image to another.
Practice Invitation
Select one photograph and create two edited versions: one with minimal adjustments and one with more dramatic changes. Compare the results and observe how different editing approaches affect the authenticity and clarity of the image. Reflect on which version best represents the experience of the practice.
